Intag is located in the Imbabura province, in the western foothills of the Ecuadorian Andes (Cordillera del Toisán), forming part of the buffer zone of the National Park Cotacachi Cayapas, and the Ecuadorian Chocó bioregion, with more than 200,000 hectares.
It has an altitudinal range from 500 to 2,400 m.a.s.l. and a temperature that oscillates between 23 ° C and 30 ° C. It is considered among the 10 hot spots in the world (hot zones of great biodiversity) and as an area of importance for birds by Birdlife in 2006.
